CompactPCI

, VMEbus and PC/104 (with PC/104-Plus and PCI-104) are leading international bus standards

with standardized electrical and mechanical features. System-On-Modules (SOM) like MEN‘s ESM™ Embedded

System Modules are complete CPU cores (which will also function in stand-alone operation) that can be exactly

tailored to the application by adding the necessary I/O on a carrier board. ESM™ modules feature on-board

FPGAs to implement additional I/O functions as required by the application.

MEN supplies ESM™ modules, PCI-104 modules as well as CompactPCI

and VMEbus boards in single and double

Eurocard format based on PowerPC

(MPC 5200, 8560, 8540, 8245) and x86 (Intel

Pentium

III, 4, M and

multi-core architecture). Operating system support comprises Windows

, Linux and real-time systems such as

VxWorks

or QNX

. Operating system software, i.e. BSPs or BIOS and drivers, onto which the customer builds his

own application software, is designed in-house for every board.

All boards are available for at least 5 years (Intel

) or 10 years (PowerPC

) – on special agreement up to 20 years.

Most of the cards are at least screened for an ambient operation temperature of -40 to +85°C (Tx), and many of

them can even be produced with components in the respective temperature range. Every CPU board is equipped

with a specially designed heat sink, which in many cases allows for fanless operation in the system. All the boards

have passed the necessary shock and vibration tests in MEN‘s in-house lab and are prepared for coating against

humidity, dust, salt fog or chemicals. For coating of boards with BGA components (Ball Grid Arrays), MEN has

developed and tested a special technique for underﬁlling of BGAs together with a renowned inspection and

test laboratory.
