Station Management System
A French enterprise supplies and licences turn-
key plant management systems for subway
stations, central control centers and driverless
metros. Sub-contractors depending on the
country install those systems on site. MEN
delivers the controls for the systems. The plant
management system is a part of the “Opera-
tion Control Center“ and is the interface to all
other management systems.
Within the “Integrated Supervisory Control
System“ (ISCS) it controls and monitors
building and supply systems, depot, display
systems, electrical trains and systems on the
train, power supply, elevators, travelators, fi re
monitoring and protection systems, electri-
cal facilities, the maintenance management
system as well as the communications systems
on the train, in the station and in the control
center, for instance.
Installations were and are being made mainly
in different South-American countries and
in Asia (Hongkong, Singapore, Taiwan and
China) but also in Northern Africa since 2002.
ETCS Level 2 System
Automated train control must be backed by
an innovative and reliable security system. The
interoperability of the signaling equipment with
the train control, security and communication
systems is crucial for safe, user-friendly and eco-
nomical railway traffi c.
The electronic equipment in this application is
used inside an ETCS level 2 system. The exact
train position is determined via a Doppler Radar
under the traction vehicle and wheel encoders
on the traction vehicle axes. Punctiform data
transmission devices on the track (balises) are
used for alignment (electronic milestones).
The ECTS computer in the train transmits the
measured position to the control center via
Euroradio. The control center sends back to the
train the needed information about the route,
stops and speed.
A custom 6U VMEbus board was designed as a
part of the computer for the ETCS system.
It provides two high-speed LVDS channel links
for universal I/O and can be used as a refl ec-
tive memory device. A System-On-Module slot
(ESM™) is implemented to add an Intel
®
or
PowerPC
®
based CPU module to the VMEbus
card for future projects.
