The D6 single-board computer is designed
for embedded systems with high computing
performance and multiple high-speed
com mu nication requirements. Unlike typical
PC boards it is screened for -40 to +85°C
operation temperature, components are all
soldered and it is prepared for conformal
coating.
The standard I/O available at the front
panel of the D6 includes two XMC or PMC
modules, two Gigabit Ethernet and one
USB 2.0. If only one XMC module is used,
one VGA and one COM are available at the
front panel. Graphics is provided in the FPGA
which can also be used to implement further
application-specifi c I/O functions. An additio-
nal 32 MB SDRAM is connected to the FPGA,
e.g. for use as graphics memory.
A wide range of different memory is available
on the D6, such as DDR2 SDRAM with ECC
as main memory. The non-volatile memory
comprises up to 8 MB buffered SRAM, 16 KB
FRAM and 1 GB NAND Flash as mass storage
for program memory. A hard-disk slot is also
implemented within 4 HP height. Aside from
parallel ATA support, two serial ATA lines are
available in addition.
A board management controller is imple-
mented to supervise the CPU, all voltages,
processor and board temperature, and reset.
The controller is completely independent of
the CPU and monitors all states of the CPU.

Module P601
The P601 is a Gigabit Ethernet XMC mezza nine
card suitable for any XMC compliant single-
board computer, such as D6. In contrast to
PMC, the XMC standard defi nes a different
board-to-board connector for support of PCI
Express
®
.
The four Ethernet channels on the P601 are
provided by two Ethernet controllers with
two lines each and supported by two x4 PCIe
lanes. With a specifi c set-up the two lines
inside each Ethernet controller can be used as
a redundant channel pair. In this mode one
line is monitored by the other line and the
controller recognizes when an error occurs.

Refl ective Memory Board
for ETCS Level 2 System
This board provides two high-speed LVDS
channel links for universal I/O on the VME-
bus. It can be used as a refl ective memory in
a VMEbus system. The VMEbus master/slave
interface is built up in FPGA.
Two LVDS channels are supported on the
front via HD-Sub connectors, each channel
with a transmitter and a receiver. Two LVDS
21-bit channel link controllers convert the
I/O signals of the FPGA into three LVDS data
streams and vice versa. The dual-ported
SDRAM is used to exchange data between
VMEbus and LVDS channels and a mezzanine
CPU module.
