Fieldbusses are the key technology for automation. Using them cuts costs by an average of 40% compared to
conventional cabling. There are about 50 different fieldbus and industrial Ethernet networks today, which differ with
regard to their technical functions, areas of use and frequency of application. The focus of these networks is on fast
transmission of small data packets between individual automation solutions. The size of data packets is limited to
achieve a deterministic and therefore predictable transmission behavior.
Standardized profiles like the CANopen application and communication profile for rail vehicle control systems simplify
system integration and maintenance and save financial and human resources. These application profiles specify
plug-and-play devices to be linked via the CANopen network. Standardized sub-system interfaces like driver desk,
traction control, main power supply, door control etc. will connect sub-systems manufactured independently by
several companies.
MEN has delivered CAN and CANopen based computer boards and systems for more than 10 years. The corresponding
CANopen firmware consists of the protocol stack from Vector, who also provide extensive CANopen tools.
MEN also has vast experience with building interfaces to other fieldbusses and gateways between different fieldbusses.
Solutions in industrial automation comprise Profibus, DeviceNet, InterBus-S, WorldFIP, Arcnet, or Bitbus. Solutions in
mobile applications comprise AFDX for aircraft, IBIS for busses – and MVB and WTB for trains.
Raging wind...not only shakes your nerves... Systems checked: the equipment stands firm.
